Sensational Sunday for the Brooklyn Cyclones in Shutout of Iron Birds

It is a sensational day for the Brooklyn Cyclones (26-16) as they were able to defeat the Aberdeen IronBirds (19-22) 6-0 in the finale of a six game homestand at Maimonides Park.

The Cyclones pitching staff as a whole were able to combine for the 10th shutout victory of the season. In a cool fact the Cyclones have shut out an opponent 10 times as they have tied a franchise record.

The Cyclones currently in First Place in the South Atlantic League North standings was able to win 4 games total in the homestand and are playing a great brand of baseball as of late.

One of the many stars in the team’s victory is due to Mets Lefty starter Joey Lucchesi, as he made his second rehab start with the team. Lucchesi recovering from Tommy John Surgery went 4.2 innings, only giving up one hit, walking one, and striking out three batters. Overall, Joey was able to toss 63 pitches and threw 37 strikes.

From there it was the Cyclones bullpen keeping the Aberdeen bats off balance, as Paul Gervase and Eli Ankeney both did a tremendous job on the hill. Gervase the eventual game winner pitched 3.1 innings and struck out seven batters.

As for the offense the team got the scoring going in the Bottom of the Sixth on a Double by D’Andre Smith giving the team an 2-0 lead. The Cyclones were able to add on when Drake Osborn lifted a sacrifice fly for the third run of the game.

Then in the Bottom of the Seventh it was a monster shot from Omar De Los Santos as he hit a homer that bounced off of the team’s equipment shed in right center field, with the blast giving the team a 4-0 lead.

From there the Cyclones made the finale 4-0 thanks to an RBI single by Rhylan Thomas, as he drove a ball to right field plating De Los Santos.

The team gets a day off before they start a six-game homestand against the Hudson Valley Renegades. Game One between the two teams starts on Tuesday, August 15 with the First Pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
