As the ladies of the New York Liberty walk into Climate Pledge Arena there are going to be a wide range of emotions for everyone on the team.
Especially for Breanna Stewart, who returns to the Storm and into an arena where there were so many amazing memories and moments in. This is going to be a first as in the Storm’s 24 years of existence they have never had a star return to their court after leaving.
Fans can hear from Stewart and Head Coach Sandy Brondello prior to the team taking on the Storm…video is compliments of the New York Liberty:
The Storm picked Stewart during the 2016 Draft, with their First pick, and forever the duo of Stewart and Storm went down in history as player and team that was able to make a ton of history.
In the Six Seasons she played in Settle, she won the WNBA Championship twice, named to the WNBA All-Star team among her many, many other accolades.
Stewart has adjusted well in what is another homecoming for the forward, as she hails from Syracuse, New York. In playing in front of her hometown crowd, Breanna has earned her first accolade from the WNBA as she has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Thus far she has 26.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.7 assist and three steals. In addition, Breanna has a 53.2% (25-47) from the field to go along with a 45.0% (9-20) from three.
There is going to hopefully be a balance for the team as the ladies play homage to their teammate, but also hope to play well against a still very good Seattle team, as they are looking for their first WNBA Win of the 2023 Season.
New York has been playing to a style that many had hoped for as of late, as it has been a combination of complete team play, spectacular shooting and passing that has gotten them to a 2-1 record.
Two members of the team who are hoping to make a contribution to the Liberty as they continue to progress throughout the 2023 season are going to be Han Xu and Kayla Thorton.
The Duo chatted with the media prior to taking on Seattle and fans can check out what they had to say by clicking on the video below….compliments of the New York Liberty
Another addition to the squad is going to be that of Marine Johannès to the roster, as she is returning to the squad after fulfilling her international commitments to one of the teams in France.
Johannès, who is known for her own phenomenal passing and shooting ability is going to be another key player for New York as they look to live up to their Super Team nickname.
The stage is set for the New York Liberty as they are getting ready to take on the Seattle Storm with the start of the action set for 9:00 p.m. For anyone wanting to watch the action can do so by checking out ESPN 2.
