Washington Mystics Falters in 88-81 loss to Connecticut

In the team’s third game of the WNBA season, they once again took on the Connecticut Sun, and were unable to figure them out in a tough 88-81 game.

There were a ton of things the team is hoping to work on as they didn’t close down the driving lanes, they didn’t help the other out on defense and they overall weren’t on the same page.

Some of the bright spots for the ladies is the fact that Center Shakira Austin tied a career-high in steals in a game with three. The last time she achieved that was on May 20, 2022, at Atlanta.

In addition, Elena Delle Donne continues to impress with her play, as she scored 27 points for the first time since September 23, 2019. Delle Donne has been able to have 25 + points in 62 games of her career.

Also, for Delle Donne the 27 points were also the most she was able to score against Connecticut since June 13, 2018.

Washington Mystics fans are encouraged to check out the following Press Conference video featuring thoughts from Head Coach Eric Thibault, along with Brittney Sykes and Delle Donne…video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:

One of the newer members of the squad Sykes continues to play well with her new teammates, as she notched four assists, which is a team high. There was also an impressive stat tallied, as dating back to last season, Sykes as the third-longest active streak in the WNBA with at least one steal with 12 games. That ranks with Aj’a Wilson (21) and Alyssa Thomas (24).

As for the Sun they are led by DeWanna Bonner as she has 23 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists and Alyssa Thomas as she has a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

Up next for the Mystics is one of their tougher tests of the season as they head to Chicago to take on the Sky on Friday, May 26 in Wintrust Arena. The tip between the two franchises is set for 8:00 p.m.
