One of the more amazing things about Professional Sports teams is the balance on managing the roster that they have currently to go along with making the moves that they feel will be helpful to them in the future.
The Washington Spirit made one such move recently as they have acquired two future draft picks from Racing Louisville FC in exchange for midfielder Jordan Baggett. This is a move that had been announced recently.
With this deal the Spirit will get Louisville’s natural 2024 second round pick and a conditional natural 2025 third round pick. In addition, Washington is going to acquire the natural 2025 third round pick pending the conditions met.
“We greatly appreciate everything Jordan has contributed to this club,” said Head Coach Mark Parsons. “It’s clear that she has left a positive impact in her four years here and we wish her all the best as she continues her professional career.”
The move had to be a tough one for the Spirit, as Baggett had been such a huge part of the club. The midfielder had been selected by the club with their third overall pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft and was in her fifth year with the club.
In her time with the Washington Spirit Jordan has been able to appear in 42 matches, scoring five goals and tallied one assist in 2,500 total minutes of playing time. In addition, Jordan is a huge part of the team winning the NWSL Championship.
Bagget has shined wherever she has played soccer thus far, as prior to the Spirit the midfielder also had four tremendous seasons with the Stanford Cardinals as she played in 92 matches recording 23 assist and was a part of the 2017 national championship-winning team.
One of the hopes for the Spirit though is that they are going to find players that are going to help shore up their future in addition to continuing to help build their legacy on the field.
