New York Mets Return to Citi Field after West Coast Road Trip

The New York Mets (14-9) return to Citi Field after a long road stretch in California. After sweeping the Oakland Athletics, New York took two out of three against Los Angeles and won two of four against the San Franciso Giants.

There were a ton of highs from the stretch in California as the team’s bats overall started to get into a good groove while they were on the West Coast.

In addition, Mets Manager Buck Showalter is having to juggle how his starters and relievers get into the game while awaiting the return of starter Justin Verlander. One of the key moments was in the series against San Francisco as he put in Drew Smith to get some valuable innings and outs for the team.

It is looking good for New York as they are on a 99-win pace, though they certainly do have one of the more challenging schedules out there.

One of the highlights in the finale against San Fransico came on Sunday at the Top of the Sixth Inning. That is when one of the current Mets Top Prospects in Francisco Alvarez clubbed a laser of a shot to left field.

Up next for New York is a three-game homestand against the Washington Nationals. While it hasn’t been announced as to who is starting for the Mets they are going to have a facinating challenge in going up against Nationals starter Josiah Gray on Tuesday

.
Gray always gives his team a chance to win games as he has a great ability to mix up his pitches and keep the batters off balance. Josiah has been able to strike out 16 batters thus far in the 2023 season as the righty is looking for his first win of the year.

Game One between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals at Citi Field is set for 7:10 p.m.
