On the second day of the baseball season the New York Mets (1-1) faced a tough challenge that in Jesus Luzardo.
Luzardo was able to do a tremendous job in keeping the Mets offense off balance, sitting down five batters.
It was that fine pitching performance along with some ESPN Highlight reel plays that was able to lead Miami to the 2-1 victory over New York.
One of the keys to the game is the fact that the Miami offense didn’t try to swing too big either, all they did was just make contact and boy did they ever. As the Marlins were able to make great contact off of Mets starter David Peterson.
Overall, the Miami offense was able to finish up the game with 10 hits, while the Mets wound up with to.
Starling Marte had himself an impressive game as he was able to get two hits, while Pete Alonso drove in the first Mets run in the game with a solo home run over the right field wall.
As for the Marlins they were led by Jorge Soler, who had himself a couple of web gams in the outfield to go along with a 2-4 day at the plate. Soler hit a homer in the Bottom of the Second Inning and that got the Marlins an early 1-0 lead.
It was in the Bottom of the Eighth that Jazz Chisholm drove in the second run, with a cannon of a homer into the second deck of loanDepot Park.
From there the Marlins bullpen did a tremendous job with keeping the Mets hitters from scoring any runs. The lone shot coming off the bat of Alonso in the Top of the Ninth.
New York is looking to gain their second victory of the year in Miami today with the victory as Tylor Megill takes on Edward Cabrera.
Megill has been able to appear in five games, while making three starts during Spring Training. Tylor held a 1-1 record with a 3.71 ERA (7 ER/17.0 IP) in Grapefruit League play. During the 2022 season Megill was able to get the Opening Day start and got the victory after going 5.0 scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals.
Tylor was also a huge part in the Mets combined no-hitter in the game against Philadelphia Phillies on April 29.
The start time between the two squads is set for 4:10 p.m. and those hoping to catch the action can do so on the SNY Network.
