To be able to find the future stars of a club is one of the more difficult tasks assigned to any team. New York City FC hopes they were able to do just that in signing midfielder Jonathan Shore to a homegrown contract through 2027, that includes an option for 2028.
Shore who is only 15-yearss-old, is the eleventh homegrown signing in history since the Academy Formed in 2015.
What is even more special for Shore and New York City FC is the fact that the midfielder is born and raised in New York City. The midfielder became a part of the NYCFC Academy in 2017 at the age of 10 from Manhattan Kickers and has been developing as a soccer player ever since.
Shore who is a regular fixture for the Club’s U17 Academy team, made his MLS NEXT Pro debut last season, as he was able to make two appearances for NYCFC II.
Director David Lee said: “We are delighted that Jonathan has signed his first professional contract and we are excited that he has committed to continue his football development with the Club over the coming years. Jonathan is an intelligent, creative and dynamic central midfield player who has performed at a high level consistently throughout his time in our Academy and has impressed in his opportunities to train and play with the First Team.”
“With the addition of NYCFC II to our Player Pathway, Jonathan will be able to play professional games in MLS NEXT Pro competition which will continue to enhance his development.
“I also want to recognize all the Academy staff who have supported Jonathan’s development from the age of 10. He has a bright future ahead and we are looking forward to continuing to support his development in the coming years to maximize his potential.”
Shore has been able to take part in the preseason play with the First Team, as he was in five of the six friendly matches. In addition the midfielder was invited to the First Team preseason in 2022.”
