The Washington Spirit bolstered their defense by awarding Sam Staab with a three-year contract. This new contract will take place immediately.
Staab has been a stalwart of the Spirits defensive line had herself an ‘Iron Woman’ season having played every regular season minute of 2022. In addition Staab also added a goal and an assist on the attacking end.
“I’m thrilled to be staying with the Spirit for the next three seasons,” said Staab. “I look forward to working hard alongside the staff and my teammates to bring another NWSL championship home to Washington, D.C.!”
The California-native had herself an outstanding College Soccer career at Clemson University prior to being drafted by the Washington Spirit with the fourth overall pick in 2019. In her career with the Tigers, Staab played in 80 matches, totaled 7,360 minutes, while also being listed to the All-ACC honoree team four times. In addition Staab was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year during the 2018 campaign.
“Sam is one of the best passing center backs in the league and complements how we see our team playing,” said Head Coach Mark Parsons. “She has been a very important player to this team and I am looking forward to supporting her having a key role in 2023.”
