True grit for the New York Riptide as the team shows heart in 11-8 loss to Rochester

It has been a rough first three games for the New York Riptide (0-3), as they have faced some of the best of the best in the National Lacrosse League. The latest result for the team was a 11-8 loss to the Rochester Knighthawks (4-0).

The afternoon’s festivities started out close enough as Rochester got on the board early on a power play goal by Ryan Smith. The Knighthawks added another prior to a Larson Sundown slam energizing the team.

New York tied things up on a goal by Reilly O’Connor, before the Knighthawks started to go on a bit of a roll.

One of the themes for the game against Rochester was the fact that there were so many opportunities in the game that were called back thanks to the video review. Those were tough calls for the officials to make, but ultimately they were the correct ones.

The Riptide was able to have a bounce go on their way on thanks to the second goal of the game by Sundown.

Things went so back and forth and fast paced that amazingly enough with the score holding a 6-3 in favor of Rochester the fire alarm went off. Thankfully the alarm was a false one, but the action continued to be fast paced and thrilled the fans that were in attendance.

Rochester once again went on a bit of a roll prior to a goals by Callum Crawfod and Connor Kearnan were able to help the team get back into the game.

It was in the fourth quarter that New York continued the climb into the game as the dynamic duo of  Crawford  and Kearnan struck once again to get the fans at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum back into the game.

The Knighthawks added the final dagger of the game, but New York was able to show heart and grit while having one of the highlight goals of the night as some beautiful passing eventually found Kearnan and making the score 11-8.

Ultimately it was Rochester and their stellar defense, who was able to keep the Riptide off of the board holding their ground and walking away with the victory.

New York showed a ton of heart and hustle throughout in going up against Rochester who is the league’s top team.

Up next for the Riptide will be a battle for New York as they will head to Albany to take on the FireWolves in what will be a 7:00 p.m. face-off at MVP Arena.
