Tom Walraven has been added by the New York Boulders as the team has been able to acquire the infielder from the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association, this trade was made in exchange for relief pitcher Matt Leon. Walraven is a native of Pine Bush, NY and provides a solid bat along with great versatility to the Boulders.
Walraven spent the first three seasons in Gary, Indiana after an exceptional college career in the University of New Haven. In his time in the College ranks, Walraven posted an impressive .327 batting average with a .857 OPS to go along with All Conference honors.
The infielder has now played 220 games at the professional level, batting .282 overall with a .807 OPS, Walraven was also able to add 28 homers and 132 RBI, known for a strong glove work as he has committed 10 errors in the past two seasons.
The addition of Walraven is more about the numbers, “With all that he can do I think the greatest impact maybe in the clubhouse.”
“When I was asking around, the reports were that the reputation is sterling. He is widely considered a leader who is tough as heck and plays the game as hard as anyone, this blends perfectly with the culture fostered by Stanton, but also by the New York Boulcers organization as a while.”
The Boulders are in the third season in the Frontier league and will have a schedule that features 96 games , including 51 home dates. Some of the highlights of the 2023 home schedule include games on the 4th of July. Fathers Day, June 18, to go along with nine Saturday home days. Opening day for the team is set for May 11 as the Boulders play long-time rival New Jersey Jackals for a three game series, while the regular season concludes on Sunday, September 3 when they rap up a three-game set at Clover Stadium.
