The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team matched its best start since 2014-15, as it moved to 10-0 after a convincing win over Bethune-Cookman, 73-52 on Sunday afternoon in Queens.
The Red Storm have reached the 10-0 mark for just the third time in program history and sit just one win shy of tying the best-ever start orchestrated by the 2004-05 squad. Today’s win marked the 800th all-time victory in program history.
For the second time in as many games, Jillian Archer logged a double-double with 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Jayla Everett had the hot hand once again, scoring a game-high 19 points at Carnesecca Arena. The guard has averaged 17.7 points per game over her last three contests.
Point guard Mimi Reid made an impact with seven points, seven assists and four boards.
The stifling defense for the Red Storm forced Bethune-Cookman to shoot just 25.8 percent from field-goal range, which is a season-low for a St. John’s opponent this season.
Additionally, the Red Storm dominated the glass, grabbing a season-high 52 rebounds against the Wildcats. The Johnnies have cleaned up on the boards as of late, logging a plus-38 rebounding margin over their last two games.
Everett set the tone to start scoring the squad’s first seven points, she finished the frame with nine. Danielle Cosgrove nailed a triple in the final minute to cap off an 11-2 run to end the quarter and give the Johnnies a double-digit lead after one, 18-8.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats pulled within one possession, 20-17, after a 9-0 scoring stretch courtesy of Kerrighan Dunn. The Bethune-Cookman sophomore sunk three-consecutive three-pointers on her solo run, she finished the game a team-high 16 points. The Red Storm quickly responded overwhelming the opposition with a 15-4 scoring run to end the half, taking a 14-point advantage, 35-21, into the break.

Fn-bounds play where Reid found Everett for a turnaround jumper. Later in the third, Everett rattled in a three-pointer to give St. John’s (10-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) its largest lead of the afternoon, 57-30.
In the final quarter, the Everett highlight reel continued when she picked the pocket of the Wildcats Dunn and was off to the races finishing the lay-up at the other end.
Freshman Skye Owen scored five points over 0:42 in the final stages of the game, as the Johnnies coasted its eighth-straight win inside Carnesecca Arena.
St. John’s has a week-long break before it hits the floor to take on Providence on Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. on FS1.
