Hofstra Men’s Basketball And Saint Mary’s Meet In Huge Mid-Major Showdow

A pair of 4-0 teams meet on Saturday night as the Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will lock horns with Saint Mary’s in a massive battle of two of the top mid-major programs in the country.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. in New York) inside University Credit Union Pavillion.

The game will air on the WCC Network and WRHU (88.7 FM) will have an audio only broadcast available on the HAWC. Links to both, plus the live statistics, can be found on this page and on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Both squads enter the game with unblemished records as the Pride has taken care of business with a strong schedule, including an 85-76 win over San Jose State on Thursday night. Hofstra’s 4-0 start is the program’s first since the 2004-05 team began the season with nine straight wins including wins over Florida International, La Salle, Binghamton, and James Madison in the first four.

The Pride, which has wins over Princeton, Iona, George Washington, in addition to Thursday’s victory, got 27 points from Aaron Estrada on Thursday as they rallied from a 14-point first half deficit as well as a 13-point second half deficit. Tyler Thomas and German Plotnikov chipped in with 15 and 12 points, respectively, while Nelson Boachie-Yiadom had eight points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in the contest.

Saint Mary’s has earned victories over Oral Roberts, Vermont, North Texas, and Southern so far this year. They most recently defeated Southern, 72-54, on Wednesday as Mitchell Saxen posted 17 points and nine rebounds for the Gaels. Logan Johnson added 11 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

This will mark the first-ever game between Hofstra and Saint Mary’s on the hardwood.
