Washington Mystics fall short to Los Angeles, 79-76

The WNBA Season is drawing closer and closer to playoff time, as the Washington Mystics continue to show why they will be a team that hopes to contend for a championship. In order to do just that though they need to compete and win against the tough West Coast Teams.

It was a tough battle on Sunday, but the Mystics fell just short of beating the Los Angeles Sparks, by a final score of 79-76 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

1495 Sports is proud to bring the following Washington Mystics Post Game Press Conference from 8/7/2022. Video features thoughts from General Manager and Head Coach Mike Thibault and Elizabeth Williams. This was after the team’s 79-76 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks:

One of the stars of the game was Ariel Atkins who had a team-high 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Atkins has been on a roll, as she has been able to score in double-figures in 31 of her 33 appearances this season, which is tied for the second-most in the WNBA.

Forward Myisha Hines-Allen was able to tie a team-best with 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Another star of the game was center Shakira Austin who netted 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while also having a team-high 10 rebounds; that marks her fourth double-double of the season. Austin is now tied with Alessandra Santos de Oliveria  for the second-most by a Mystics rookie in franchise history.

The Mystics also had a stellar performance by Natasha Cloud, who had a team-high nine assists. One of the biggest keys for the ladies as they progress for the rest of the season will be a continued balance of offensive and defensive play, as playoffs are just around the corner.

There will be a bit of a breather and practice sessions held by the team, as the next time the Mystics will be next in action will be on August 12 as the ladies will be on the road to take on the Indiana Fever. Tip between the Mystics and Fever is set for 7:00 p.m.
