The New York Boulders used a bit of home run power to complete a perfect six-game home stand, by defeating the Empire State Greys on Sunday by a final of 16-8 at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

New York was able to complete a three-game series with the Greys and the  Trois-Rivieres Aigles, as the team is now seven games over .500 (39-32), while also moving to within 1 ½ games of the Sussex County Miners for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division.

The Boulders were able to add to a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run homer by Gabriel Garcia (14 on the year), as the frame progressed Tucker Nathans’ (11 on the year) solo shot made the lead 5-1.

Giovanni Garbella had a two-run shot in the fifth inning, combined with a two-run blast by David Vinsky as the Boulders were able to take a 9-1 lead.

New York kept on their home run groove thanks to Gian Martellini and Max Smith had back-to-back shots in the eighth. In the bottom of the frame Vinsky hit his second two-run shot that made the score 13-2.

The Boulders line-up as a whole had themselves a stellar showing, as all nine starters were able to get at least one hit in the victory.

The Greys, meanwhile, after being blanked in the first two games, got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a fielder’s choice by Trey Woosley. Jordan Holloman-Scott added an RBI  single in the eighth.

On the mound for the Boulders, July Sosa got the victory, as the starter went seven innings, while only allowing one run on six hits, while walking nine and striking out a career-high nine. Sosa now holds a 4-1 record on the year.

For the Greys they had Mizuki Akatsuka on the mound, as the starter went sixth innings, while surrendering eight runs and 10 hits.

The Boulders will get a day off before hitting the road to start a three-game set against the Ottawa Titans starting on August 9. Game one between the two teams is set for 6:30 p.m.
