In the team’s second meeting against the Dallas Wings, the Washington Mystics were able to earn a bit of redemption in their 84-68 victory over the team.
When the two first met on Mary 13, that was an unlucky day for the Mystics as the ladies lost their first home game of the season by a tally of 94-86. The victory in Dallas must have felt sweet for the team, who is now 4-1 in a very early WNBA Season.
With the victory the team is off to the best start through five games, the last time the Mystics had a 4-1 record was in the 2018 season. The ladies were also able to record their first win on the road against Dallas since 8/31/19.
Helping to lead the way for the Mystics was Shakira Austin, who had a team-best and career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while also adding a team-high eight rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
1495 Sports is proud to bring the following Washington Mystics Post Game Press Conference from 5/18/2022. From after the Mystics 84-68 victory over the Dallas Wings in WNBA action. Video features thoughts from General Manager and Head Coach Mike Thibault, Elena Delle Donne, Shakira Austin and Kennedy Burke:
Shakira is now the first Mystics rookie to score 20 plus points in a single game since Stella Austin accomplished the same feat on 8/19/20 and is only the fifth rookie since the 2005 season to compile a 20 plus point game for Washington.
The Mystics saw the return of Natasha Cloud to the floor, and Cloud had herself another stellar night assist wise, as she was able to dish out a game-high seven assists.
Washington saw the debut of Kennedy Burke, who made an immediate impact tallying 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting, while also bringing in three rebounds.
Up next for the Mystics will be a road trip to Atlanta, as the ladies will take on the Dream on May 20. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with those wanting to watch the game can do on on the Monumental Sports Network.
