D.C. United Impress in 3-2 Win over New England

With new Head Coach Chad Ashton and a rowdy Audi Field behind them, D.C. United impressed on Friday night against the New England Revolution by a final score of 3-2 in MLS action.

New England took the air out of the crowd with an early victory as Brandon Bye connected on a beautiful connection from Carles Gil and Emmanuel Boateng. D. C. United started to find a rhythm and confidence and were rewarded for their efforts with the first goal of the game.

It was Taxi Fountas scoring in the 26′ that got the crowd and the team back into the match again. One could tell the team started to play with a ton more energy. Creating some brilliant scoring opportunities as the night progressed.

D.C. United was able to gain the lead in the 39′ as Michael Estrada found the back of the net thanks to assists from Julian Gressel and Fountas.

Fountas was all over the place for D.C. United, as he was making his first MLS Start with the club. The forward scored again in the 43′ to give the black-and-red 3-1 lead as the team entered into the locker at the half.

Because of his stellar performance Fountas, was the first player in MLS history to record two goals and an assist in the first half of his first MLS start

When both squads hit the field after half, it had seemed as if D.C. United was going to do everything in their power to keep their lead. There were not too many opportunities for the black-and-red as one could tell the objective was to play keepaway.

Things started to get tense for the fans at Audi Field when at the 86′ Adam Buksa made the score 3-2. That is where the night stood though, as thankfully the defense was able to stand tall and earn a huge three points.

D.C. United will be hitting the road to take on the Columbus Crew on 4/30, before returning to Audi Field for a match against the Houston Dynamo on May 7.
