Sophomore Darlinstone Dubar had 17 points, including 13 in the first half, but it wasn’t enough as Stony Brook rallied in the final 20 minutes to earn a 79-62 win over Hofstra on Wednesday evening at Island Federal Arena.
The loss ends a four-game win streak for Hofstra, which fell to 5-5 with the defeat. Stony Brook improved to 4-4 with the win.
The score was knotted at 14 in the first half before Hofstra regained the lead via a three-pointer from graduate student Jalen Ray. The Pride would continue to hold the advantage, including at 19-18, before scoring nine of the next 12 points in the contest to push the lead to seven, 28-21, following a driving layup from junior Caleb Burgess. Hofstra held off Stony Brook in the final minutes of the opening half and a free throw from Ray in the closing seconds gave the Pride a three-point halftime cushion.
Stony Brook quickly closed the gap to one in the opening minute of the second stanza before Hofstra pushed the lead to eight, 42-34, by virtue of a quick 7-0 scoring run. Graduate student Zach Cooks keyed the run with five of the Pride’s seven points.
It would be all Seawolves from that point as the home team used an 11-0 run to earn a 45-42 lead after a three-pointer from Tyler Stephenson-Moore. The lead would expand to double digits with a 13-4 run to make it 58-48 with 10:13 left in the second half. That proved to be enough breathing room for Stony Brook as Hofstra was unable to get the deficit under double digits the rest of the contest as they saw their win streak come to an end.
Cooks finished with 14 points for Hofstra.
Jahlil Jenkins led Stony Brook with 24 points, while Stephenson-Moore had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

– Hofstra leads the all-time series with Stony Brook, 24-6. The Pride had won five straight in the series entering tonight.
– Graduate student Jalen Ray had six points for Hofstra. He now has 1,436 career points to move into 13th place all-time at Hofstra in scoring. He passed Leroy Allen, who had 1,435 points from 1983-87. He is one point shy of 12th place (Frank Walker; 1,437 points from 1985-89).
