The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening when it wraps up its two-game road swing against Temple at 7 p.m.
The contest between the Red Storm (1-1) and the Owls (1-1) will be broadcast on ESPN+.
St. John’s will look to rebound from its recent setback on Sunday, falling victim to Stony Brook at Island Federal Arena.
In the team’s most recent outing, Leilani Correa led the way for the Red Storm in scoring, pouring in a team-high 18 points. In addition to her scoring prowess, the Manchester, N.J., native also grabbed six boards and dished out a pair of assists. With 18 points against the Seawolves, Correa has reached double figures in 10 of her last 15 games, dating back to the 2020-21 season. Through the Red Storm’s first two games this year, the 2021 All-BIG EAST First Team selection is averaging 20.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest. For her efforts in the Johnnies’ first two contests, Correa landed a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll on Monday.
Camree Clegg also finished in double figures for the Johnnies at Stony Brook, tallying a career-best 13 points to go along with five assists in 27 minutes of action. The graduate student from Westland, Mich., went 4-for-9 from the floor, knocking down three of her six attempts from beyond the arc.
Rayven Peeples, who led the Johnnies in scoring with 24 points against FDU in the team’s home opener on Thursday, pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds at Stony Brook on Sunday.
Temple enters Wednesday’s contest with a record of 1-1. The Owls opened up the season with a 73-53 win over Saint Francis on Nov. 9 before falling to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, 70-53, on Friday evening. Graduate student Mia Davis averaged 17 points per game over the opening week to lead the squad in scoring. In the team’s most recent outing against FGCU, senior Alexa Williamson led the team in points and rebounds, as she tallied 23 points and 12 boards for her first double-double of the season.
St. John’s is 6-5 all-time against Temple in a series that dates back to 1984. At McGonigle Hall, the Johnnies and the Owls are knotted at two wins apiece.
After taking on Temple, the Red Storm will return home to Queens for a Sunday showdown against Ivy League foe Yale. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on FloSports.
