Washington Mystics star Tina Charles Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

The WNBA announced recently that Washington Mystics center Tina Charles has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played during the week of September 6 – September 12. This marks her second Player of the Week recognition this season and the 32nd of her career (last win: June 14, 2021). Charles is averaging a league leading and career-best 24.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Charles led the Mystics to a 2-1 record, with wins over the Atlanta Dream (82-74) and the Chicago Sky (79-71). During the week, she averaged 20.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range. The 11th year center totaled her 10th 30+ point game of the season on September 12 at Chicago (31 points, 10 rebounds), joining Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi as the only players in league history to total at least 10 30+ point games in a single season. On September 10 vs. Atlanta, Charles totaled 16 rebounds and 26 points, passing Rebekkah Brunson for second in all-time rebounds. Charles’ 16 rebounds marked her fifth 15+ rebound game of the season, tied for the most in the league.
