Washington Spirit Battle to 1-1 Draw against the Orlando Pride

On a nearly perfect day for Soccer the Washington Spirit battled to a 1-1 Draw against the Orlando Pride in NWSL Action on Sunday afternoon. The Spirit who played at Audi Field, had a ton of offensive momentum during the course of the match, but the heat combined with the fine play of the Pride was what led to the final fally.

The Spirit got the match off on a positive footing, as Trinity Rodman combined with Ashley Hatch for a wonderful opportunity that went wide early in the match. Orlando responded with a great chance that was deflected by the Spirit Defense.

Rodman impressed throughout the match, and made another great opportunity at the 7′, when she combined with Ashley Sanchez that was unablet o connect.

The two teams went back and forth with some great chances, as the Spirit was able to dimainte the play for the most part.

It was in the Second Half of play where both teams were able to find the back of the cage. First the Spirit was able to solve the Pride defense, when Ashley Hatch headed the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Pride was tenacious and was able to find a responding goal four minutes later thanks to Taylor Kornieck who solved the Spirits defense to find the back of the cage.

The ladies will get some time off prior to heading to SeatGeek Stadium to take on the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, June 19 at 9:00 p.m.
