Minor League Baseball has returned to the borough of Brooklyn and in fine style as the reigning and defending New York-Penn League Champs the Brooklyn Cyclones are back in action.
There have been a ton of changes for the Cyclones, who currently have a 7-10 record. The biggest of all the changes is the fact that the team now plays in Maimonides Park. The park went through a new naming rights agreement with the Maimonides Medical Center, which is in Brooklyn.
The park had been known as MCU since 2010, had an 11-year relationship with the Municipal Credit Union. This season the deal was not renewed, and Maimonides is now the name that fans will see as they enter to see the team for the first time.
In addition, the team is no longer playing in the New York-Penn League, but instead is in what is considered the High-A team, which was formerly located in Port St. Lucie Florida.
The final biggest change was the change in the managerial position as Ed Blankmeyer now mans the helm for the Cyclones.
Throughout all of this though the team has played well, the team just played six games against Hudson Valley, in where the team was able to win three games of that series.
Now Brooklyn will get a chance to host the Aberdeen IronBirds for six games and will look to continue their winning ways.
Both teams have the top prospects for their respective organizations on the field. As Aberdeen holds six of the Top 30 MLB Pipeline prospects on their club. One of the stars for the Ironbirds includes pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, who is scheduled to pitch on Tuesday and Sunday. On the offensive side No 11 prospect Adam Hall, No 23 Kyle Stowers and No 30 prospect Joey Ortiz will look to shine for the visiting side.
The Cyclones, meanwhile, have been led by Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio. The Mets No. 1 prospect Francisco Alvarez, who was just called up from Low-A St. Lucie will hope to make a splash in Brooklyn.
The first of the six games between Brooklyn and Aberdeen are set for today (Tuesday) with Oscar Rojas looking to earn his first victory for the Cyclones. Game one is set for 6:30 p.m.
