New York City FC Start MLS Season with tough loss to D.C. United

It was not the start that they were looking for, but New York City FC began the 2021 MLS Season with a 2-1 loss to D.C. United on Saturday evening.

As always, the action between these two clubs was fast and physical. The Boys in Blue were able to get into a bit of a rhythm and it was Ismael Tajouri-Shradi that was able to get the first opportunity of the night, on a kick that hit the crossbar early in the frame.

New York City FC were eventually rewarded for their fine play, when Taty Castellanos found the back of the cage in the 25th minute. D.C. United did not go down without a fight, as they found their offensive confidence, with their first opportunity coming from Russell Canouse that went just wide.

Neither side were able to get many chances after a flurry in the First Half, and it all came to the Second to determine who would walk away with the well-earned victory.

D.C. United earned the game winner thanks to Brendan Hines-Ike, as the Boys in Blue saw the first game wind down in a losing decision.
