Preview: Washington Capitals vs Buffalo Sabres

It will be an exciting night for the Washington Capitals as they will play host to the Buffalo Sabres in NHL action on Thursday night.

The excitement for the team will be the celebration of center Nicklas Backstrom who will be playing in his 1,000th career game against the Sabres. To honor Backstrom, the team will be wearing #19 warmup jerseys.

The team will thanks to the MSE Foundation will then auction off those jersey’s, with the proceeds going to the Kids Power, Inc. Fund, which is a company that inspires youth, along with the Capitals Impact Fund.

In achieving the milestone, Backstrom will become the second player in franchise history to play 1,000 games with the Capitals, as he joins teammate Alex Ovechkin in reaching the milestone.

Ovechkin leads the charge for the team on offense, as the Capitals Captain is on a four-game point streak, as well as a two-game assist streak. Some of the other players to watch for on the Capitals include T.J. Oshie, who is on a four-game point streak, to go along with a four-game assist streak. Lars Eller who is on a three-game point streak and Dmitry Orlov, who is on a two-game point streak.

Impressing in his debut with the team in the game against the Philadelphia Flyers was Anthony Mantha, who recorded a goal and an assist. Mantha became the 49th player in franchise history to score in his debut game, and the first since Nic Dowd on October 3, 2018 against the Boston Bruins.

In that game against the Flyers, the Caps were able to skate to a huge 6-1 victory, the team has been playing well as they have been able to combine for 14 goals over the last two games.

When it comes time for playing the Sabres this will be the eighth and final meeting between these two teams. In the last meeting the Caps were able to skate to a 4-3 victory in Buffalo in April. This will be the 171st game all-time between these two teams.

Leading the way for the Sabres is Rasmus Dahlin, who has six points in the last six games. When it comes time for playing the Capitals Victor Olofsson has always played well, as he has recorded five points in seven games, in addition Rasmus Ristolainen has five points.

The game between the Capitals and Sabres is set for 7:00 p.m. with fans wanting to catch the action can do so by checking out the NBC Network.
