BIG EAST Conference Tournament Continues to Thrill as Championship Day is Among Us

The BIG EAST Conference Tournament has been a thrilling one as some of the best teams in the Country have all been fighting for an opportunity to showcase their talent in the NCAA Tournament.

Upsets abound at Madison Square Garden, in the action on Thursday as Georgetown was able to defeat Villanova by a final score of 72-71 in the first game. Leading the way in scoring in that game was Dante Harris who had 18 points, Qudus Wahab who had 17 points, Jahvon Blair who had 14 points and Jamorko Pickett who rounded out the scoring with 12 points.

Seton Hall was able to shock some brackets with their 77-69 overtime victory over St. John’s in the second game on Thursday. Sandro Mamukelashvili led all scoring with 20.
The Favorites in the Tournament picked up the momentum in the Second Half of the action on Thursday, as Creighton outlasted Butler by a final of 87-56. Leading the way for the Bluejays was Marcus Zegarowski who had 18 points.

In the final game of the night the University of Connecticut defeated DePaul by a tally of 94-60. The Huskies had a balanced scoring effort during the game as three players finished with 14 points as Tyrese Martin, R.J. Cole and Adama Sanogo all led the way.

Madison Square Garden continued to see thrilling action on Friday as Georgetown Defeated Seton Hall in the Semifinal Round, with the Hoyas earning a 66-58 victory. Pickett led all scoring with his 19 points from 5-of-11 shooting from the field.

Georgetown has been making waves the whole Tournament, as they are the first team in league history to be picked last and play in the title game. The Hoyas are used to being the last seeded team and making it to the Title game, as they achieved the same feat in 2010.

Creighton was able to defeat the University of Connecticut in what was a nail biter of a game, as the Bluejays earned a 59-56 victory. Damien Jefferson led all scoring with his 12 points from 4-of-13 shooting.

It will all come down to today (Saturday) as No. 2 Creighton will meet No. 8 Georgetown to battle for the BIG EAST Championship. This will be the first time these two teams have met in the Championship game, and this will also be the first that the No. 2 and 8 seeded team will battle for the BIG EAST Title.

Thus far the higher seed has always done well when it comes time for winning the Championship, as the No. 2 seed has won the championship eight times (’18, ’13, ’04, ’95, ’90, ’98, ’95, ’82). The last team to accomplish this feat was Villanova.

The game between Georgetown and Creighton is set for 6:30 p.m. with fans wanting to watch all the action can do so by checking out the FOX Network.
