Buffalo Sabres fall to Flyers in Shootout, 5-4

It was a fast and psychical game between the Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers, in the end it was the Flyers that were able to gain a 5-4 shootout thriller in NHL action on Tuesday.

James van Riemsdyk opened the scoring for Philadelphia with a goal at the 1:56 mark, Sam Reinhart scored twice, and Riley Sheahan was able to find the back of the cage to give the Sabres a 3-1 lead.

The fast-paced action continued as the Flyers were able to cut the lead in the second period thanks to a goal by Kevin Hayes with a goal at the 2:58 mark. Brandon Montour responded for Buffalo with a goal at the 6:20 mark, which made the score 4-2.

Claude Giroux and Shayne Gostisbehere tied things up for the Flyers which sent the game into Overtime. It was a brilliant shootout frame, in which the Flyers were able to find the back of the cage twice thanks to tallies by Sean Couturier and Nolan Patrick.

Up next for the Sabers will be a road trip to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, with the face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. This will be the first of eight meetings between these two teams this season. In the last meeting the Penguins were able to defeat the Sabres 4-2 in Buffalo on March 5, 2020.

Buffalo has done well against the Penguins, as the team holds a 2-1-0 record in each of the last two seasons, as the team has been able to win consecutive seasons against the Penguins for the first time since 2005-06 and 2006-07.

In the last five meetings between these two teams have been won by the team who scored first. Rasmus Dahlin is a player to watch for on the Sabers, as he has been able to record three points in the last three games. Taylor Hall has recorded 23 points and Carter Hutton has two shutouts and a .940 save percentage.
