The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have been making a lot of moves, as the team is getting ready for the American Hockey League Season.
First the team had to postpone their preseason game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to tomorrow February 4, with the face-off scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The action will still take place at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA
The team also announced that they have been able to sign defender Matt Miller and Dominic Cormier to professional tryout agreements.
Miller and Cormier are defenders who come to the Penguins from the team’s ECHL affiliate the Wheeling Nailers. Miller has played well registering two assists in the first nine games, while Cormier has been able to play in eight combined between Wheeling and Rapid City Rush.
Prior to making it to the ECHL, Miller had spent four years at Ohio State University. In his time with the Buckeyes, he was able to record 64 points (19 goals-45 assists) in 119 games. Miller also was able to lead all OSU defenders in goals and points during three of his four years.
Hockey is in the blood of Miller, who was born in East Palestine, Ohio, as his younger brother of current Vancouver Canucks forward and 2011-first round pick (15th overall) J.T. Miller.
Cormier, meanwhile, played some stellar hockey with the University of Ottawa. Recording three goals and 17 assists for 20 points in 27 games with the Gee-Gees. He was named to the 2019-20 Ontario University Athletics All-Rookie Team. Cormier had been able to play 259 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, splitting his time between the Rimousky Oceanic and Victoriaville Tigers.
The official American Hockey League season for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins is set for Saturday, Feb 6 against the Binghamton Devils, with the action set to start at 5:00 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
