The Metropolitan Riveters had their undefeated streak snapped by the Minnesota Whitecaps by a tally of 1-0 in NWHL action in Tuesday night action. There was a playoff atmosphere around both teams and both played an exciting brand of hockey.
Both teams were able to play some stellar defense, as the game was scoreless for nearly 60 minutes. There was a ton of great chances by both teams but the goalkeepers for both teams were very impressive. Amanda Leveille was perfect in the cage for Minnesota making 38 stops, while Sonja Shelly had a tremendous night in the cage for the Riveters making 36 saves.
Sadly for the Riveters a couple of late penalties was the biggest factor in the game, as the game eventually went into overtime. Haley Mack, who is one of the rising stars for the Whitecaps was able to cash in on a 5-on-3 power play with 10 seconds left to lift Minnesota to the victory.
The last time these two teams met, it was in a semifinal matchup to determine who would go to the 2020 Isobel Cup Final, so this game had a very similar feel to it.
Some of the positive things that came out of the game for the Riveters was the fact that they were able to outshoot the Whitecaps by a tally of 38-37.
Up next for the New York Riveters they will be taking on the Buffalo Beauts in NWHL action on January 27th, with the game scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
