A native of Venezuela, Galvis was originally signed by the Philadelphia Phillies on July 2, 2006, as an International free agent. He made his Major League debut on April 5, 2012, and has spent time with the Phillies, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, and Cincinnati Reds during his nine-year MLB career. He appeared in all 162 games in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018 and led the NL in starts by a shortstop in both 2016 (153) and 2017 (155). Since his debut in 2012, his .984 fielding percentage as a shortstop ranks second-best among active players. Galvis is a career .247/.291/.385 (880-for-3565) hitter with 156 doubles, 26 triples, and 95 home runs.
