Crutcher Named A-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week; DeGray Chosen as Rookie

The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton senior Jalen Crutcher as A-10 Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Ronnie DeGray III was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 11-17.

Crutcher led Dayton to a pair of wins last week, averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while shooting .593 (16-of-27) from the floor, and .636 (7-of-11) from beyond the arc. The guard from Memphis scored 18 points (13 in the first half) in a win over Duquesne on Wednesday, followed by 23 (16 in the first half) in a win at George Washington. Against the Colonials, he scored a key layup and then hit a three to turn back a GW rally. Crutcher made 5-of-7 3-pointers in the GW game.

DeGray averaged 14.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 61 percent overall in two wins last week. A forward from Parker, Colo., he had a career-high 21 points on a 7-of-9 (.778) night from the floor along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals against Rhode Island. He followed that with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds at Fordham.

Davidson freshman Sam Mennega had a 15-point, nine-rebound performance in a win over Saint Joseph’s where he shot .625 from the field (5-of-8) … Dayton freshman Mustapha Amzil averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, sinking three field goals, one 3-pointer and registering a steal in each UD win last week … George Mason’s Jordan Miller had a 22-point game at Rhode Island, shooting 9-of-17 (.529) from the field with five rebounds and two assists … Tre Mitchell averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last week, including a 24-point, eight rebounds performance at Fordham … Makhel Mitchell had 23 points on 10-of-13 (.769) shooting at UMass and followed with a 14-point, 10-rebounds double-double against George Mason … St. Bonaventure’s Kyle Lofton averaged 21.0 points and 4.0 assists last week, tallying 28 points on 8-of-16 (.500) shooting versus Duquesne and a six-assist game against Fordham.
