New York Riptide Acquire Matt Marinier from Philadelphia

The New York Riptide announced recently that the team has acquired defender Matt Marinier and a second-round pick in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft from the Philadelphia Wings in exchange for defenseman John Ranagan and a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft.

Marinier was selected in the second round (21st overall) of the 2019 NLL Entry Draft. The 6’6” left-hander was the tallest player selected in the draft that season. Marinier scored 11 assists in eight games played in 2020 for the Whitby Steelhawks of the Arena Lacrosse League. Marinier also saw action in 19 games in 2019 for the Burlington Chiefs (Ontario Jr. A), scoring nine points on four goals and five assists. Marinier added four goals in 14 games during Burlington’s run to the 2019 OJALL Finals.

“John served as an honorable captain and teammate in the Riptide’s inaugural season. We wish him all the best in Philadelphia,” said Riptide General Manager Jim Veltman. “We are excited to add Matt’s size to our back end and we’ve heard nothing but good things about his potential. Training camp just got a bit more grit added to it today.”

The Riptide will return to Nassau Coliseum for the franchise’s second season in 2020-21. For more information, please visit NewYorkRiptide.com
