VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with stars Ariel Jurado and Andrés Giménez share these thoughts after the team’s 9-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in Major League Baseball action on 9/1
The New York Mets (15-21) had a tough outing against the Baltimore Orioles (16-19) falling by a score of 9-5 in Major League Baseball action on Tuesday night. New York has a really big question to solve as to what to do with their starting rotation, as they have some new arms to test with the remainder of this 60-game season.
Two of the newest arms that were featured were Ariel Jurado and Franklyn Kilome, who both are gaining the experience they need to become successful pitchers. Jurado got the start for New York, going four innings, striking out two batters and giving up nine hits to a very good Baltimore offense. Kilome, meanwhile went three innings, sitting down two batters and giving up five hits.
Leading the way on the offensive side for New York were homers by Robinson Cano and Andrés Giménez. For Giménez his shot to left center field in the top of the Sixth Inning was the first of his career. As for Baltimore their bats were able to find those key hits that were needed to get the runners that were on base home.
Some of the leaders for the Orioles were Renato Núñez, Pat Valaika and Anthony Santander, For Santander, the Orioles Outfielder had a single in the bottom of the Second Inning, and then a homer in the bottom of the Eighth that gave his team the lead which they held on too.
The Orioles have been having issues of their own with starting pitching, but were able to see a strong outing from Asher Wojciechowski, who went five innings striking out five batters and giving up seven hits.
New York and Baltimore will conclude a two-game series on Wednesday (today) as the Mets will have Michael Wacha (1-2, 7.41 ERA) taking on Orioles starter John Means (0-2, 8.59 ERA). The game between the Mets and the Orioles is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. with the action airing on the SNY and MASN Network.
