VIDEO: New York Mets Manager Luis Rojas along with star Rick Porcello shares their thoughts after the team’s 8-7 loss to the New York Yankees in the first game of a doubleheader played on 8/30
Anytime the New York Mets (15-19) and the Yankees (19-13) play each other, one can expect a ton of grey hairs, nailbiters and overall some thrilling baseball. The 2020 series of the Subway Series was no different, with the Bronx Bombers coming out with a double header sweep, 8-7 and 5-2 in Major League Baseball action on Sunday.
In Game One Rick Porcello went four innings striking out two batters and giving up two runs in a really solid start on the hill. Some of the offensive leaders for the Mets was Robinson Cano who lifted a homer to Center Field in the top of the Fifth Inning. Michael Conforto was another leader with the stick, recording a double in the top of the Sixth Inning.
The Second Game was just as tough of a result for the Boys in Blue, who saw Seth Lugo take the mound for 3.2 innings, striking out seven batters and giving up four hits. Conforto saw a hit in the nightcap, as well as the Mets also seeing a contribution from Dominic Smith.
It is going to be a grind for the Boys in Blue and Orange, who won’t have a ton of time to breathe between games. The team will have a quick turnaround as they play again on Monday against the Miami Marlins, as the two teams are making up a game that was originally scheduled on August 27th.
New York will have one of the best arms out there on the mound on Monday as starter Jacob deGrom (2-0, 1.80 ERA) takes on Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers. For deGrom, he will be making his fourth start against the Marlins and has been throwing really well so far especially since he is recovering from a neck injury. Thus far he has allowed one run over 13 innings with 21 strikeouts and two walks. Rogers, meanwhile, will be making his second big league start at Citi FIeld.
The game between the Mets and the Marlins is set to start at 1:10 p.m. with the action airing on the SNY Network.
