No Place like Home for Mets in Series Against Marlins

There is no place like Citi FIeld for the New York Mets (5-8) who traditionally play really well on their home field. They will be glad to be back in the friendly confines of their home field as they take on the Miami Marlins (5-1) in a three-game set starting today (Friday, August 7) at 7:10 p.m.

The Marlins who are just starting their season have looked really well so far, cooling off what was a red hot Baltimore Orioles team down in Baltimore. Their pitching staff looks to continue their fine performance in this series against the Mets.

New York, meanwhile are looking to see what will be the formula for success in a shortened Major League Baseball season. It is all about the timing and now would be a really good time for the team to get some great quality at bats.

On the mound for New York will be righty Michael Watcha (1-1, 6.00 ERA) who is attempting to get the feel for his signature changeup back against the Marlins.

Miami has had some offensive success against Watcha though, as Jonathan Villar, Francisco Cervelli and Jesús Alexander Aguilar all have recorded home runs against the starters.

Thus far the Marlins have not announced their starter, so the team as well as Mets fans will have to wait to see who will get the call.

Leading the way in the Mets 3-1 victory over the Nationals on the offensive side of the plate was Dominic Smith, who recorded a hit and drove in two runs. Also impressing in his play for the team has been infielder Andrés Giménez, who has a .320 average in 25 plate appearances thus far, tallying eight hits and driving in one run. Gimenez has shown that he is going to be a huge part of the team’s plans as the 2020 season progresses.

All the offense for New York needs is one game where they can regain their confidence and get into a bit of a groove, with the Marlins not really at full capacity this maybe the series that does it. It’ll be interesting to see what happens though as the Miami pitching staff has looked really stellar so far. The game will air on the SNY Network so fans wanting to catch the action can do so on there.
