New York City FC was able to make it to the MLS is Back Tournament Round of 16 and were able to make some serious noise in the 3-1 victory over Toronto FC on Sunday night.
Recording goals for the Boys in Blue were Jesus Medina, Valentin Castellanos, and Maxi Moralez as the team will now be in the quarterfinal round where they will meet FC Cincinnati or Portland Timbers next Saturday.
Looking to wipe away the results the team had in New York City for the MLS Playoff campaign in heartbreaking fashion at Citi Field last October, the rivarly between NYCFC and Toronto has been a fierce one and continued to be such in the latest edition on 7/26.
Opening up the scoring for the Boys in Blue was Jesus Medina, who was able to find a beautiful set-piece by Anton Tinnerholm and lasered the ball past Toronto keeper Quentin Westberg. Medina was extremely aggressive getting some tremendous opportunities on goal throughout the night for NYCFC.
Valentin Castellanos made the mark 2-0 for New York in the 55 mark, connecting on a beautiful assist by Maxi Moralez (his 49th assist) hitting a beautiful ball that found the back of the Toronto FC cage.
Moralez was not finished making noise for New York City FC, as the midfielder made the tally 3-0 in the 81 mark and helped to propel the Boys in Blue to their Quarterfinal Round Dance in the MLS is Back Tournament. Now all the team needs to wait and see who they will face if it will be FC Cincinnati or the Portland Timbers. The match is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at 10:30PM ET
