Things didn’t start well for the Baltimore Orioles (2-1) in the team’s 13-2 MLB Season Opening Loss to the Boston Red Sox, but then momentum and the bats were found in Fenway Park as the team won the next two (7-2, 7-4) to take two-out-of-three games from their American League East Rivals.
On the offensive side of the field Rio Ruiz had himself an impressive showing recording home runs in two of the three games. Jose Inglesias recorded a double, Hanser Alberto had an incredible showing in the Orioles victory over the Red Sox on Saturday lacing a double and collecting three hits.
The pitching performances for Baltimore were quite impressive as Alex Cobb was able to pick up a victory in his 5.1 inning performance on Saturday. The righty struck out six batters, giving up four hits and one run. Lefty Wade LeBlanc followed up Cobb’s performance with a stellar 5/2 inning outing on Sunday, striking out four batters and giving up four hits and four runs.
Baltimore was able to see a tremendous relief outing from Cole Sulser, who was able to notch a six-out save, the first of his career on Sunday, which was a huge part to the Orioles leaving Fenway Park with a Series Victory.
One of the biggest keys to any success that the Orioles will have this season will be the performance from their bullpen and so far the results are looking positive that Manager Brandon Hyde will have some strong arms to call upon when the time is right. A huge moment from Saturday’s game was when Miguel Castro was able to strike out pinch-hitter Xander Bogaerts which stopped the offensive momentum that the Red Sox had.
Now the Orioles along with the rest of Major League Baseball are in a wait and see pattern as to what will happen with the rest of the Major League Baseball Season. Baltimore was set to play in an Interleague game against the Miami Marlins but according to reports that has been postponed due to the fact that several of the players have been tested positive for COVID-19. According to reports Miami is still in Philadelphia where they just completed a Series against the Phillies.
As of now the Marlins will be in self-isolation for 14 days per the MLB and the Players’ Association health and safety protocols. There is the possibility that the next few games against the Marlins will be postponed meaning the Orioles may next take on the Tampa Bay Rays in Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday.
This will be one of the most interesting seasons for all of Major League Baseball as obviously the health of the players will be of a high priority. Everyone is going to be keeping a watchful eye on the test that are being administered to the players and there is a small chance that more of your favorite stars may opt out so that they do not contract the virus.
