Summer Camp Begins for the Baltimore Orioles as Excitement Builds for the Season

The Baltimore Orioles are one of many Major League Baseball teams who are getting ready to play the new 60 game season that is potentially on the table for this coming summer.

So far MLB announced on Friday that 38 of 3,195 test conducted in the league’s initial wave of testing came back positive, resulting in a 1.2 percent positivity rate. There are Nineteen different clubs that had one or more individual tested positive.

The MLB protocol calls for players and on-field staff to be tested every other day. Everything is a wait and see pattern and obviously all just wanting to make sure that both the players and the staff can get on the field and playing in a safe manner.

So far in the field for the Orioles is John Means, Ty Blach, David Hess, Richard Bleier, Branden Kline, Evan Phillips and Cody Carroll were among Orioles’ pitchers that were going against live hitters according to online reports. Asher Wojciechowski was able to throw a bullpen session for the team.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Orioles rotation, as they are in the process of figuring out how to structure their pitching staff. Manager Brandon Hyde has so many options when it comes time for pitchers as 26 of the Orioles’ 45 players in the camp are pitchers.

There is hope that the team will start playing intrasquad games by the middle of next week in an attempt to ‘fast-track’ their camp. Some of the players to watch for in the season pending the start will be Chris Davis, who has added over 25 pounds of muscle over the winter.

With the shortened season it will be interesting to see if the Orioles will call upon their recent Draft picks to make an immediate impact with the teams. It is looking like they are going to handle things on a case-by-case basis and that means different things for different players.

Thus far the team has invited two players to the Summer Camp that includes Austin Hays and Hunter Harvey in a list that includes a 44-man player pool that has some candidates to make the Opening Day Roster.

The main goal is to make sure as many guys can get on the field playing in a safe and healthy manner as possible and to get baseball going again, before the Orioles as well as many of the other Major League Baseball teams can even think about the top prospects. As always be sure to stay tuned and get excited and hopeful for baseball again.
