Sky Blue FC Re-sign Midfielder Sarah Killion

Sky Blue FC co-captain and midfielder Sarah Killion has agreed to a new contract ahead of the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League Season. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not announced.

Killion joined Sky Blue in 2015 after being selected as the second overall pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. A long-standing member of Sky Blue, Killion reached her 100th cap in the 2019 NWSL Season in the historic first match played at Red Bull Arena on August 18th. Killion finished the 2019 season playing every minute, registering one goal and notching three assists. Killion was voted Unsung Hero of the Year by her teammates.

“I feel so excited to be back for another year with Sky Blue,” said co-captain & midfielder Sarah Killion. “The momentum that we developed over the second half of last season is going to carry over this year. I love this group of girls and playing at Red Bull Arena is going to bring a new identity and a new energy to our team. I believe in this group and can’t wait to support this club in any way that I can!”

Since being drafted by Sky Blue in 2015, Killion has 106 appearances for a total of 9,164 minutes, only missing 6 games. She has scored a total of 11 goals and notched nine assists for Sky Blue. Killion is Sky Blue’s all-time leader in minutes played, games played, games started, and penalty kick goals with a total of eight. She currently holds the club’s single-season record of penalty kick goals with four scored in 2017. She had a team-high of five goals and two assists that same season, and earned NWSL Team of the Month honors for May. In 2016, she earned Sky Blue’s Most Valuable Player award.

“Sarah is a quintessential part of Sky Blue so we are thrilled to have her back for another season,” said Sky Blue FC General Manager Alyse LaHue. “She is one of our team leaders who has quietly become one of the most important players in this league, so having her continue in this role during a historic season for this club is tremendous.”

Killion represented the United States in international competition at the youth levels. She was part of the starting lineup for the U-20 U.S. WNT that won the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The following year she represented the U-23 U.S. WNT in the 2013 Four Nations Tournament.
In 2014, Killion received her first call-up to the full-team under the former head coach, Tom Sermanni. She has received two more call-ups under former head coach, Jill Ellis, and most recently was named to the December Identification Training Camp under new Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski.
