Hofstra Men’s Basketball Heads South For Pair Of CAA Contests

The Hofstra men’s basketball team will continue its tough travel to open the Colonial Athletic Association slate as the Pride begins a two-game road trip with a game at UNCW on Thursday.

Tip-off from Trask Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. This trip will finish a conference-opening schedule for the Pride that will see Hofstra play five of its first seven CAA games away from home.

There will be FloHoops live video of the game as well as a Pride Productions live audio broadcast, courtesy of WRHU (88.7 FM). Links to the broadcasts, as well as the live statistics, can be found on this page as well as on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra will bring a solid 13-5 overall mark and a 4-1 CAA record into the game against the Seahawks. The Pride has two straight and seven of its last eight games since December 10, including a 74-72 win over Northeastern last Thursday. Senior Eli Pemberton gave the Pride the win over the Huskies as he scored the game-winner with 0.5 seconds left for the huge road win.

Senior Desure Buie is leading the team in scoring at 19.1 per game, while also leading the squad with 95 assists and 42 steals. Pemberton is second on the team with 16.4 points per game, while sophomore Isaac Kante is tops on the team in rebounding at 7.1 per contest and ranks fifth in scoring with 10 points per outing.

UNCW brings a 5-14 overall record and a 0-6 conference ledger into Thursday’s meeting. The Seahawks most recently dropped an 80-63 road decision to Elon on Saturday. Jaylen Sims leads UNCW with 14.3 points per game and is tied with Mike Okauru for the team-lead with 5.3 rebounds per game. Marten Linssen is second in scoring at 10.2 points per outing.

Thursday will mark the 43rd all-time meeting between Hofstra and UNCW with a very close series seeing the Seahawks holding a narrow 22-20 lead. The series got underway when the Pride joined the CAA in 2001-02. The teams split the two meetings a year ago, with both winning on their respective home courts.
