New York City FC vs Montreal Impact Preview

New York City FC is finally back in MLS action this weekend as The Boys in Blue travel north to take on the Montreal Impact.

It’s Major Keys time…

Finishing Chances

It’s no mystery what the problem has been for the Boys in Blue as of late – and that’s finishing the chances created.

After 27 shots vs. New England and 31 vs. D.C. United – the manager is confident that his team is entering one of their best phases of play all season long – and the goals will surely follow.

Dome said: “We need time. We could score many many goals in the last two games, but the football is something like that. Maybe we arrive just five or six times in Montreal and we are able to score three goals.”

“The best way to win is to try to play well. And we’ve played well the last two games. Yes, we need to be more clinical in front of the goal.”

So, on that note, let’s keep it up, the goal avalanche will surely come.

Ignacio Piatti has been one of the most consistent playmakers in MLS over the past five seasons despite the rapid pace of change in Montreal.

He’s scored 60 goals so far for the Canadian side and is sitting on a cool 13 so far this season under new manager Remi Garde.

NYCFC teams of past and present could speak equally well to the danger posed by Piatti. Let’s be sure to keep an eye.

The Counter

Piatti is the key to Montreal’s most impactful form of attack – the counter. As evidence in their turning of the tide in Philadelphia just a week ago.

After going down to the Union 1-0, Montreal counter-attacked their way to a resounding 4-1 victory to stop a surging Union side.

Something to be aware of if NYC look to dominate the ball as they have done in previous outings.

Back in the New York Groove

The boys are back in town!

All of NYCFC’s internationals – Maxime Chanot, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Ebenezer Ofori, and Rodney Wallace – are back in the New York groove and join up with the rest of the squad as we try to turn the tide before the playoffs.

Dome says Jo is raring to go, most notably. Even midfield fulcrum Yangel Herrera, once thought to be out for good is now nearing a return at just the right time for NYCFC’s playoff push.
