New York Jets Post Game Notes – NYJ 12, MIA 20

Captains:

  • The Jets currently lead the series 54-50-1.  (Series at Home: 29-24)

Jets Debut:

  • LB Kevin Pierre-Louis made his Jets debut.

Second-Half Opening Drive:

Following their seven play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 28-yard touchdown reception by RB Bilal Powell, the Jets have now registered opening second-half scoring drives in each of their first two games.

Sacks:

The Jets defense brought down Ryan Tannehill three times in the first half with sacks by S Jamal Adams, DL Henry Anderson and LB Brandon Copeland, and then on the opening drive of the second half on a strip sack by LB Jordan Jenkins. Both the three first half sacks and the four sacks for the game were the most by the Jets since they recorded seven vs. BUF (11/02/17). Additionally, the four sacks by the Jets came for a loss of 46 yards, the most yards loss on sacks since they had 47 vs. TEN (12/13/15).

Receiving Distribution:

In his second start, rookie QB Sam Darnold threw for 334 yards, completing passes to eight different players. In the game, WR Quincy Enunwa (92 yard), WR Terrelle Pryor (84) and RB Bilal Powell (74) all surpassed 70 yards receiving, the first time three Jets receivers each gained 70+ yards in a game since Enunwa, WR Brandon Marshall and WR Eric Decker accomplished the feat at BUF (09/15/16).

Jamal Adams:

In the defense’s second drive, S Jamal Adams recorded a sack on first-and-ten, forcing a fumble (recovered by MIA) for a loss of seven yards, tallying the third sack and second forced fumble of his career and the Jets’ first sack of 2018. Adams also finished the contest tied for the team lead in tackles with seven (four solo).

Henry Anderson:

Early in the first quarter, DL Henry Anderson brought down Tannehill for a loss of 15 yards, forcing a MIA punt and marking his first sack as a New York Jet.

Brandon Copeland:

Halfway through the second quarter, LB Brandon Copeland brought down Tannehill on third-and-five, forcing a MIA punt and marking the first full sack of his career, after he registered a half-sack as a rookie with DET in 2015. Copeland finished the contest with three solo tackles, one sack for eight yards and two quarterback hits.

Sam Darnold:

With his 334 yards passing, QB Sam Darnold (21 years, 103 days) became the youngest player in NFL history with a 300-yard passing performance, passing former HOU QB Jacky Lee (21 years, 137 days) who accomplished the feat vs. BPA (11/25/60).

For the game, Darnold was 25-of-41 passing (61%) with a touchdown and two interceptions for a 74.6 passer rating.

Quincy Enunwa:

WR Quincy Enunwa tied his career best in receptions and led the team for the second week in a row, hauling in seven receptions for 92 yards. Through the first two games Enunwa has tallied 13 receptions for 155 yards and a touchdown. His 92 receiving yard are tied for the third-most he’s recorded in a game.

Chris Herndon:

With time winding down in the first half, TE Chris Herndon hauled in the first reception of his career, catching a short pass to the sideline and taking it 17 yards to extend the drive. Herndon finished the game with two catches for 30 yards.

Jordan Jenkins:

On the first defensive play of the second half, LB Jordan Jenkins brought down Tannehill, forcing a fumble that he recovered himself on the MIA 12. For Jenkins, three of his career six full sacks have been strip sacks.

Jason Myers:

At the start of the fourth quarter, K Jason Myers connected on a 55-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 11. The field goal, tied for the third-longest in franchise history, is also tied for the longest field goal at home.

Bilal Powell:

In the Jets first drive of the second half, RB Bilal Powell caught a pass over the middle and ran it in for a 28-yard touchdown, putting the first points on the board for the Jets. Powell’s catch was the longest receiving touchdown of his career, surpassing his previous best of 25 yards on a pass vs. NYG (12/05/15), while his 74 receiving yards in the game were the most since the contest vs. NYG as well.

Buster Skrine:

CB Buster Skrine has led or tied for the team lead in tackles in each of the Jets first two contests this season, recording seven tackles in each game.

Avery Williamson:

Late in the third quarter, LB Avery Williamson recovered a fumbled snap by MIA, the third fumble recovery of his career and his first since 2014. Williamson finished the contest with four solo tackles, one quarterback hit and a fumble recovery.

Terrelle Pryor:

WR Terrelle Pryor caught four passes for 84 yards, including a 44-yard catch and run in the second quarter, the game’s longest play. Pryor’s 84-yard performance is the most receiving yards he has recorded since Week 17 of the 2016 season when he totaled 94 yards on seven receptions for CLV at PIT (01/01/17).
