The Brooklyn Cyclones hold a 11-11 record heading into a three game series against the Staten Island Yankees on July 7.
Brooklyn Dropped a tough first game by a final score of 3-2 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark here are some notes from the team:
BIG MOMENTS
- Junior Soto’s solo home run against Cyclones reliever Billy Oxford in the bottom of the eighth gave the Yankees a 3-2 advantage.
- Brooklyn tied the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs on a Staten Island throwing error.
- Staten Island scored the first two runs, taking the lead with Junior Soto’s RBI single in the second and doubling the lead with Frederick Cuevas’ run-scoring base knock in the fifth.

- Trailing 1-0, Aberdeen rallied to take a 2-1 lead on Doran Thurchin’s two-run home run against Cyclones starter Briam Campusano in the third. Alexis Torres added a two-run single against Campusano in the sixth, pushing the lead to 5-1.
- David Miranda’s RBI single in the bottom of the second inning gave the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage.
- Aberdeen starter Jimmy Murphy struck out five over five innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk for the victory.

- The New York Mets announced Wednesday that RHP Noah Syndergaard is schedule to make a rehab start with Brooklyn Sunday vs. Staten Island.
- Brooklyn played at home on the fourth of July for the sixth time in the 18-year history of the franchise.
- In three of the past four games, the Cyclones have lost despite taking the first lead of the game.
The struggles for Brooklyn continued as they lost Game 2 on July 5 2-1
BIG MOMENTS
- Jaison Vilera threw seven innings of two-run ball, striking out a career-high-tying eight batters. He allowed five hits and a walk, and faced the minimum over his first four innings.
- Angel Manzanarez cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, getting the Cyclones on the board.
- Aberdeen’s Doran Turchin doubled home two runs in the top of the fifth, giving the Ironbirds a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Turchin threw out Chandler Avant at the plate to complete an inning-ending double play.

- Jose Medina poked a run-scoring single in the ninth inning, cutting the Ironbirds’ lead to 5-4. Medina homered in the first, putting the Cyclones on the board.
- Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Aberdeen’s Nick Horvath blasted a two-run home run against Cyclones starter Kyle Wilson to take a 4-3 advantage.
- Nick Meyer’s two-run single in the first inning put the Cyclones ahead 3-2.
