On Frank Lampard Day at Yankee Stadium, Super Frank scored two goals to help lift New York City FC to a 3-2 victory over D.C. United in a thriller on September 1, 2016.

Lampard, who was honored prior to the match versus D.C. United, as the Midfielder was honored for recording his 300th career goal for club and country. That milestone came in the away match versus the Columbus Crew on August 13.

D.C. United had the momentum in the First Half, but when NYCFC came out in the Second Half some huge subs made by Head Coach Patrick Vieira, brought some extra life to the team.

Coming onto the pitch after the Half for New York City FC was Steven Mendoza, who immediately provided a spark to the club. Another huge sub was that of Khiry Shelton in the 79th minute.

In the cage for New York City FC was keeper Josh Saunders, who continues to make some dazzling plays in addition to many great defensive moments by all who were on the pitch.

NYCFC scored the first goal of the match at the 79th Minute as Captain David Villa intercepted a pass from the D.C. United defense and put one past the Keeper for his league-leading 17th goal of the season.

Lampard then put New York City FC in front, 2-1, before D.C. United was able to find a response in the first minutes of Stoppage Time. The boys in blue kept fighting and Lampard came through with the goal needed to earn the victory.

NYCFC will head to New England for a match against the Revolution on Saturday, September 10, before returning back to Yankee Stadium on Saturday, September 17 to host FC Dallas. The match between New York City FC and FC Dallas will air on the YES Network, with the action set for 7 p.m.
