The New York Cosmos were able to keep the dream of winning the North American Soccer League Spring Championship alive, while also handing the Carolina RailHawks their first loss of the Season on May 1 in a 1-0 thriller at Shuart Stadium.
Throughout most of the first half of play both clubs had quality opportunities, but were unable to cash in. It was just before the Half that Yohandry Orozco, making his first start with the club, earned his first goal of the season.
Making several huge saves throughout the night was Cosmos Keeper Jimmy Maurer.
Also having quality offensive opportunities throughout the night was Niko Kranjčar.
For the Cosmos they have now improved their Spring record to 3-0-2, while moving within three points of the RailHawks 4-0-1.
New York will now travel to Florida for a first ever meeting with NASL expansion side Miami FC on Saturday, May 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at FIU Stadium.
The Cosmos will next be at Shuart Stadium on Saturday, May 22, as they host the Tampa Bay Rowdies in a match set for 6:00 p.m.
