Fordham University (13-11, 4-9) had everything clicking in the 76-66 victory over UMass (11-14, 4-9) in Atlantic 10 action at Rose Hill Gym.
On display was a great balance of offense, defense and overall strong rebounding which led the Rams to defeating the Minutemen twice in the regular season.
Fordham saw five players end the game with double figure scoring, led by Freshman Guard Joseph Chartouny who had 16 points to go along with eight assists. Jon Severe finished the game with 13 points, while Chris Sengfelder and Nemanja Zarkovic both recorded 11 points each. Ryan Rhoomes had a strong game with a double-double 10 points and 13 boards, to go along with four blocked shots, two assists and two steals.
Rhoomes’ 13 rebounds give his 846 career rebounds, good for seventh on the all-time list, while his four blocks brings his career total to 134, fifth all-time at Fordham. The Senior Forward has scored in double figures in 22 of the 24 games this year and has eight double digit rebounding games.
In the game, Fordham held the Minutemen to shooting 40.4% (23-57), including 36.4% (12-33) in the second half. From long distance, UMass connected on only seven of 237 attempts (25.9%) compared to 10-for-24 for the Rams.
Fordham will now go on the road to take on St. Louis on Saturday, February 20 in an Atlantic 10 game at 8:00 p.m. (EST) for a game that will be televised on the American Sports Network (ASN) and seen in New York on SNY. The Rams will return home on Saturday, February 27 to host Davidson College in a game that is set for 2:00 p.m.
