PHOTO GALLERY and POSTGAME VIDEO: St. John’s WBB v Villanova

The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team (17-7, 8-5) fell to Villanova (16-9, 9-5) by a final score of 71-59 in BIG EAST action at Carnesecca Arena on 2/12/16.

With the regular season quickly coming to an end the Red Storm will continue to face some of its toughest competition to see where exactly they will stand prior to the Postseason Play.

Due to the final score tonight St. John’s is now tied for third place in the BIG EAST standings with Xavier.

The march towards the playoffs are a familiar road for Head Coach Joe Tartamella and his Coaching staff, who will be doing what they can to keep the ladies fresh and ready for this most important time of the year.

Leading the way on the offensive side for St. John’s was Danaejah Grant who had 22 points, while Aliyyah Handford had 17 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the Red Storm.

Grant has now scored 20 or more in each of her last three games and has reached double figures in 27-consecutive contests dating back to last season. The senior guard from Piscataway, N.J., now has 1,315 points for her St. John’s career, moving past Nadirah McKenith and Jackie Smith into 11th place on the school’s all-time scoring list tonight.

Villanova had a very impressive night on the offensive side of the floor, as three players figured with double-digit scoring. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Alex Louin with her 18 points in the game. Caroline Coyer had 17 points, while Megan Quinn rounds out the scoring with 15 points.

St. John’s impressed in a number of statistical categories, shooting 49.1 percent from the floor and outrebounding the Wildcats by a 31-24 margin. Despite the Red Storm surrendering just nine turnovers for the game, Villanova was incredibly efficient on those ensuing possessions, recording 18 points.

The Red Storm will look to bounce back on Sunday in a 2pm game versus Georgetown on 2/14 at Carnesecca Arena.
