Cyclones Take Game 2 Against Connecticut Thanks to Monster Night from Michael Katz

Brooklyn Cyclones Infielder Michael Katz had a big day at the dish, as he and the middle of the line-up helped to lead the offense to a 4-1 victory over the Connecticut Tigers on Friday night at MCU Park.

Katz finished the night 2-for-3 with two RBI, including his first home run as a professional.

The 6,787 at MCU Park were able to see many historic moments on this night.

The crowd got to see the first full appearance in a Cyclones Uniform by the Mets 2015 Fourth Round Draft Pick David Thompson. The Miami, Florida-native hit in the Fourth Spot of the line-up, while playing a very solid Third Base for Brooklyn.

Thompson also delivered his first hit and RBI in a Cyclones uniform in the bottom of the Fourth Inning. It was in that frame that David, who is a product of the University of Miami baseball team, was able to bring home Michael Bernal, who singled and advanced to second on a balk.

It was also in that frame that Michael Katz launched a two-run homer over the left field wall that gave Brooklyn the 4-1 lead.

Not only did the Cyclones bats deliver but the fans got to see a tremendous pitching performance by starter  Gaby Almonte (1-1) who tossed 6.0 innings, allowed one unearned run, on five hits, walking one and striking out three for his first victory of the 2015 season.

Once again the Brooklyn Pen impressed as Nicco Blank, P.J. Conlon , and Alex Palsha tossed three near-perfect innings to keep the Connecticut offense off the scoreboard.

The Cyclones will conclude this series with the Tigers, while also concluding the six-game homestand on Saturday, June 27 with the action set to start at 6:00 p.m.

It will be Mike Gibbons (1-0) on the hill for Brooklyn, taking on Gregory Soto (0-1) for Connecticut. Fans at the ballpark will have a chance to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the movie Toy Story, will all encouraged to enjoy the post-game fireworks show.
