It was goals galore for both the New York Lizards (5-0) earned a 15-12 victory over the Boston Cannons (1-3) in Major League Lacrosse action on Saturday.
In a true thriller and in a game that only adds to the ongoing rivalry between New York and Boston, in the end it was the Lizards that came out on top as the team swept the home-and-home series with the Cannons.
Leading the way on the offensive side for New York was Rob Pannell who had a five-point game (three goals, two assists), JoJo Marasco tallied three goals and Tommy Palasek also delivered a hat trick.
The 5,387 in attendance also got to see a bit of history as Paul Rabil recorded his 200th career goal. Rabin ended the night with a three-point (two goals, one assist) performance.
Stepping-up big time for the Lizards was their defensive unit, that includes the play of keeper Drew Adams who had 17 saves. Steve DeNapoli had four ground balls, one goal and several huge possessions for New York, while Joe Fletcher continues his outstanding defensive play having six ground balls.
In his return to the New York area former Lizards Max Seibald had a strong showing for the Cannons scoring one goal and a two-point goal. Also having impressive offensive performances for the Cannons were Brent Adams and Kevin Buchanan.
The New York Lizards will next be in action on Sat., May 16th at 5 pm, as they take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at Shuart Stadium will receive a Lizards rally towel, and the night will also feature a special ceremony to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the New York Lizards
Several players from the Lizards’ 2001 inaugural season will be recognized, and members of this year’s New York squad will wear throwback jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Tim Goettelmann’s Monster’s Kids Foundation.
Goettelmann, a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) legend who played 11 years for the Lizards, has been raising funds for children in need of medical care since 2009. So fans are encouraged to come on out not only for a great game, but to also support a great cause.
