The New York Lizards (3-0) was able to earn a 14-12 thriller over the Rochester Rattlers (1-2) to complete the home-and-home sweep in Major League Lacrosse action on Sunday
Leading the way for New York was Paul Rabil who finished the game with four goals and one assist, as the midfielder continues to play well with his new team. The Johns Hopkins product got a goal in the 9:25 mark in the 4th Quarter that helped to seal the victory for the team.
Attacker Rob Pannell had a hat trick and an assist, as the Cornell product was one of many keys to the offensive success to the team.
It had seemed as if for each New York goal, Rochester was able to answer back with a goal of their own. The Lizards used a balanced offense and home huge defensive saves by Drew Adams and plays by Joe Fletcher were only two huge pieces to the team’s defense in this game.
In addition to the multiple goals by Pannell and Rabil, the Lizards also saw goals by Matt Poskay (2), Matt Gibson (2), Mike Stone and Tommy Palasek.
As for Joe Fletcher who had himself his first goal of the season against Rochester, as well as a huge caused turnover later in the game. The defender who is technically in his first full year with the team and has adjusted well to playing at the Major League Lacrosse level.
Things will not get any easier for this New York Lizards team as they have another home-and-home game against the Boston Cannons in May.
It has been a long rivalry between the Lizards and the Cannons, and this will be an interesting test for New York in this still very young season.
The team will head up to Boston to take on the Cannons on May 3 before returning home to Shuart Stadium on May 8.
