The Hofstra Women’s Basketball team was selected to the 64-team Women’s National Invitation Tournament, it was announced tonight.

The Pride will play against the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday at the Palestra in the opening round. Game times will be announced on Tuesday. Hofstra will be making its fifth-ever appearance in the WNIT and its first since 2012.

Head Coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey has led Hofstra to four WNIT appearances in her nine seasons. The program’s best-ever finish came in 2007 when the team advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Western Kentucky. Hofstra advanced to at least the second round in 2006, 2007 and 2010.

Hofstra is 20-12 and is coming off the first appearance in program history in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship title game. The Pride dropped a close decision to JMU but posted a quarterfinals victory over William & Mary and a semifinal victory against Delaware, which marked the first time since the Pride joined the CAA in 2001-02 that the team won multiple games in the conference tournament.

Hofstra cracked the 20-win mark for the fourth time in the Division I era with the team’s 45-42 win over Delaware in the semifinals. Hofstra last won 20 games in the 2009-10 season. Three of the four 20 win campaigns since 1982-83 (the first season of Division I for the program) have come under Kilburn-Steveskey.

The Pride is 0-1 all-time against Penn with the only meeting between the schools coming in the season opener of the 2001-02 campaign.
