Following a pair of performances that saw her average 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, Aliyyah Handford was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, it was announced on Tuesday night.
This is the second time in her St. John’s career that Handford has been selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team, as she garnered the same accolades a year ago.
Handford kicked off play on Sunday against Creighton with her third double-double of the season. The Newark, N.J., native registered 11 points, 10 rebounds four assists and a steal in 40 minutes against the Bluejays.
The next day in the semifinals against Seton Hall, Handford poured in a team-high 18 points and narrowly missed her second double-double in as many days, finishing the contest with a game-high nine rebounds.
A one-time BIG EAST Player of the Week this season, Handford was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on nine occasions in 2014-15. She was also tabbed as a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second-consecutive campaign.
Megan Podkowa of DePaul earned Most Outstanding Player honors, as the Blue Demons took home the conference crown for the second-straight year. DePaul’s Chanise Jenkins also found a spot on the All-Tournament Team, as did Seton Hall’s Ka-Deidre Simmons, Marquette’s Arlesia Morse and Villanova’s Caroline Coyer.
